The Metropolitan Park is the closest natural reserve to Panama City. Actually within city limits, location that is unique in the world, is only 15 minutes away from the core of the commercial activity of Panama, it lies 260 hectares of protected tropical rainforest that has been subject for researches and studies for several prestigious institutions. You can actually walk from some of the prestigious hotels situated nearby.

The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute has assembled a crane in this park to study the biological activity that takes place in the canopy of the forest. In this way, the scientists analyze the behavior and migration activity of plants and animals at different heights of the forest.

Ancon Hill is the highest point of the Panama City area and it has served a number of purposes since the colonial period. The residents of Panama, City who were sacked and plundered by Sir Henry Morgan in 1671, chose to relocate nearby Ancon Hill as it was easier to defende from the summit of the hill, 200 meters above sea level. Ancon Hill soon became popular for its commanding views of the city as well as for nature enthusiasts, since in it’s an ideal place to spot numerous species of birds, reptiles and mammals. See less
