Have a pleasant tour in the world famous Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro and discover the wonders of this oasis in the middle of the urban center. Founded in 1808 by King D. João VI of Portugal, the Botanical Garden shows the diversity of Brazilian and foreign flora. The 140-hectare park lies at the foot of Corcovado Hill, just below the right arm of the Christ the Redeemer statue, and contains more than 6,000 different species of tropical and subtropical plants and trees, including 900
varieties of palm trees, bromeliads, orchids, carnivorous plants, and more.
The garden also houses monuments of historical, artistic and archaeological importance. The Botanical Garden has an important research institute, declared a member of the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve (RBMA), which develops a wide range of botanical studies in Brazil.
On this guided tour of the sprawling UNESCO biosphere reserve, amble down the Avenue of the Royal Palms, and also through trees and plants from around the world, including the gigantic water lilies from the Amazon. Learn the history of the garden and observe the wildlife, being able to come across some of the various species of birds in the Botanical Garden, such as the colorful toucans, as well as small monkeys and even iguanas. Then, enjoy free time to stroll through the gardens on your own before returning to the shuttle that will take you back to your hotel.
