Plitvice Lakes are a must see when in this area of Croatia. We were particularly pleased to be able to combine a visit to this wonderful place with transport between Zagreb and Split. When we found that the pace of our tour was going to be beyond our walking capabilities, the guide graciously allowed us to walk on our own. We took a much shorter route than the guided tour, and enjoyed it immensely. The place where we had our lunch had good food and quick service.Note that people on the tour will be required to pay the admission fee, in cash only, for the national park while riding to the park.

Plitvice Lakes (PL) was listed on many people's "must see" lists, and I have to agree with that rating. What made this deal irresistible was the fact that the visit to PL was followed by transport to Split, a city we wanted to visit as well. It was basically a two-for-one deal.PL has glorious scenery and, if you seek it, some degree of serenity. The crowds began to be distracting as we got closer to Big Falls but, in May at least, they were not overwhelming. The walkways were not as safe as possible, but that is a fact of balance between safety and a sense of natural beauty. Be careful as you walk! What truly saved our visit was the willingness of our guide to allow us to do our own tour, away from the group. Plain & simple, we knew we could not walk as fast as the rest of the people in this tour. Despite the obvious risk, our guide let us walk on our own for the entire time. This allowed us to have the experience WE wanted to have, and turned a day that could have been miserable into a day that was delightful. One last note: if you just want a soda at the end of your visit, do not buy one from the restaurant there -- get one from the gift shop. The prices at the restaurant are outrageous for what you get.
